Management Self-Assessments

Sustainable Compliance Assessment Tools

Introducing Management Self-Assessment
Management Self-assessments are questionnaires that assess factory performance on sustainable compliance issues. Each self-assessment measures policy, procedure, training, implementation, communication, documentation, workers integration and awareness, which are all considered important elements and serve to provide a comprehensive picture of a factory’s compliance performance.

Measuring the risk of non-compliance

The risk of non-compliance significantly increases if any or several of these factors are missing or incomplete. A score of below three on a scale from one  to five indicates substantive problems and a real risk of non-compliance. To assess progress, the self-assessment is repeated at the end of a defined period of time, usually after either six months or one year.

The Self-Assessment method: Quantitative & Visible

Self-assessments are quantitative tools comprised of a range of multiple-choice questions, the answers to which score either in favor of or against good performance in compliance. The data generated by the self-assessment displays a factory’s compliance score at a glance, and is a useful indicator of major gaps and possible root causes for challenges to compliance at the factory.

The Self-Assessment philosophy: Sincerity, Support, Progress

Self-assessment are embedded in a comprehensive problem solving process that starts with an analysis of needs, presents capacity building tools to address those needs, and communicates measurement of progress. Progress is only possible if the starting point is identified correctly and candidly; factories are thus encouraged to provide accurate data for the baseline assessment - the more accurate the data, the greater the prospect of substantial improvement.

After some 12 months of capacity building, an external assessor administers the self-assessments again to assess impact. By comparing the first and second results we can observe the factory's progress and at the same time test the integrity of the initial data.
